How to Clean a Felt Board ⭐️ tinyFEATs

How to clean your felt board - flannel board

Life with kids can be.. messy!

But, caring for your tinyFEATs felt board is one less thing you need to worry about mama. Like all of our products we've designed our felt board to be easy to maintain, so you can spend more time playing and less time cleaning!

However should an accident happen, here is the best way to deal with it.

There are 2 parts to your felt board, the first is the colorful fabric face (that the felt pieces stick to) it is made from 100% cotton, and the darker felt backing is made from 100% polyester. Each fabric will handle stains a differently so I will break it down for you.

How to Clean the Back Side of your Felt Board

Lets start with the Polyester felt backing because it is the easiest. Polyester is inherently stain resistant so the only type of stain you need to worry about is grease or oil stains.. which hopefully your child does not have in their possession! However if your child does smoosh greek salad onto the board, fear not, dish soap and warm water is the cure.

Check it out, I poured a lot of olive oil on the back of the board to show you how easy it is to clean!

How to Remove Oil Stains from Polyester Back Side of your Felt Board:

  1. Rinse stain with warm water in the sink.
  2. Use a mild soap like dish soap or hand soap, rub it into the stain.
  3. Rinse again to remove all soap residue.
  4. Shake or squeeze out excess water.
  5. Hang to drip dry or lay flat on a towel to dry.

How to Clean the Front Side of your Felt Board

The colorful cotton face of the felt board can be a little more tricky as cotton is more absorbent and thus more vulnerable to stains. The trick always is to catch it early and rinse immediately.

The items you really need to watch out for are as they are more likely to stain all cotton fabrics, are ice-cream, chocolate, butter, blood, mustard, ketchup, ink and oil. Here is a great article on how to get these stains out of cotton.
